Scrap Metal
Bridges Environmental collects and transports scrap metal for our clients. Once the metal is collected, the process of identification and separation ensures a maximum of augmentation of the material.
Our services cover
- Ferrous metals
- Aluminium
- Copper
- Brass
- Stainless steel
- Lead
First, we separate metals into one of two basic grades, which are referred to as ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Once a metal has been identified as one of these types, it is then further categorised into more specific grades for processing. This will determine the price of the metal at the time of purchase. Prices are regularly subject to change as dictated by the fluctuations in the world market.
Bridges Environmental disintegrates, segments and sorts metals such as…
Ferrous metals
These metals – scrap iron and steel – are magnetic and are generally heavier than most non-ferrous metals. The most important examples:
- Cast iron – brake drums, manifolds, storm cover gratings, roller rings…
- Heavy steel – railway iron, construction steel, plate steel, old machinery
- Light-grade steel – roofing iron, ducting, drums, spouting
- Ferrous – white ware, car bodies
Non-ferrous metals
These metals are non-magnetic and are generally lighter and more valuable than ferrous metals.
Aluminium
- Cast – mag wheels, gear box housing, drain covers
- Domestic – pots and pans, registration plates, corrugated roofing
- Extrusion – window frames, channel box section
- Irony – brake boosters, cylinder heads, vehicle water pumps
Copper
- Domestic – water cylinders, toilet cisterns, spouting
- Grade 2 – piping sheet, off cuts
- Grade 1 – new pipe off cuts, punchings, unsheathed copper
Brass
- Mixed – fittings, taps, piping
- Swarf – brass turnings
Stainless steel
- Solids – bench tops, sinks, shower trays
- Swarf – stainless steel turnings
Lead
- Solids – flashing, sinkers, piping
- Batteries – sourced from automotive vehicles
